breaking news
Some people in Webster Parish are giving up their free time to help abused and neglected children.
Close to twenty volunteers were sworn in this week to become court appointed special advocates for the CASA program. These new volunteers will work with children who have been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect. Volunteers basically represent abused children before a judge. In the state of Louisiana, on average abused or neglected children spend over three years in foster care.
Program coordinators tell us recently there has been an increase in the number of cases dealing with abused children in Webster Parish because of methamphetamine use. Volunteers also work on providing these parents with intervention programs hoping to help them get their lives back on track.
If your interested in becoming a volunteer you can contact program coordinators at (318) 425-4413.
