(Baton Rouge, LA) The Louisiana State Police is placing a full-time Air Support Unit pilot in Ruston to serve north Louisiana.
The mission is to enhance statewide public safety with aerial support to the Louisiana State Police.
All State Police pilots are full-time commissioned state troopers with full arrest powers.
This will be the first time since 1985 that a pilot and aircraft have been based out of the immediate area. North Louisiana was previously supported by a pilot and aircraft based in Alexandria whose territory included Southwest, Central and North Louisiana.
The hangar at the Ruston Airport will house a Bell OH-58 helicopter and a Cessna 172 fixed-wing airplane. These aircraft and the pilot position were relocated to Ruston from Baton Rouge.
