It`s being called the largest roundup of of violent sex offenders and gang members ever in the nation. Last week more than a thousand law enforcement agencies joined together to arrest nearly 11,000 fugitives as part of Operation Falcon III. Local law enforcement played in the operation. In the Western District of Louisiana, nearly 500 warrants were executed. 153 of those in shreveport-bossier and the surrounding areas. 135 suspects were actually arrested as part of the operation on several charges, Attempted murder, gang activity, sexual predators and drug dealers. The arrests were the work of more than 20 local, state and federal agencies. Deputy Marshal for the Western District of Louisiana, Chris Turner says he`s pleased with the outcome of the operation. "We have thousands of unexcuted search warrants in this area for what ever reason, we went through those and focused on the most violent fugitives. We put 85 officers on eight arrest teams focused on arresting those people." Falcon III comes on the heels of the "Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act" signed by President Bush earlier this year. The U.S. Marshals Service has been designated by the act to lead the national effort to find fugitive felons.
