A blow to some Ark-La-Tex non-profit agencies.
In a 5 to 1 vote, Bossier City Council has decided to cut funding to 11 of them in the Shreveport-Bossier area.
The decision comes after an opinion by the city`s attorney, who informed the council that funding more than 400,000 dollars to non-profits violates state law.
If a proposal to cut some non-profit funding is passed as part of the city`s budget for 2007, 85-thousand dollars is at risk for the Bossier Arts Council.
" We are just hoping that there is a way if not to reverse to at least fix this problem because I do believe the citizens of Shreveport-Bossier desire to have the quality of life they are used to and that has been growing in our area, " said Richard Folmer, Executive Director.
Officials at Sci-Port Discovery Center share the same disappointment. 100,000 is at stake there.
Eight agencies have been spared in the proposal. The attorney`s opinion finds valid reason for needed funding.
Though a decision must be made by December, it could come as early as next week.
