Local tax collectors say delinquent taxpayers are hindering government budgets.  Due to a bad economy, job losses, and other factors many property owners simply can't afford to pay their tax bill.  Unpaid tax bills translate to less money in municipal coffers to provide essential government services.

Bowie County tax collector Wayne Bouterse says he will work with delinquents to collect overdue taxes.  Bouterse says it's important not to ignore the problems.  Unpaid taxes eventually collect penalties and interest.  Ultimately the delinquent taxpayer's property can be seized and sold to the highest bidder.
