Community Remembers Teen Crash Victims

"I grew up with them, so it`s just hard to think about that I`m never gonna see them again." Matthew Ducharme is just one of hundreds of Airline High students paying their final respects to Emily Perdue, Molly Reed and Katy Watkins. The teens died Friday after a rollover wreck on Interstate 49. "They were all straight A students... and they were the most humble people in the world. And they just didn`t deserve to go out like this," said Ducharme. Monday more than two-thousand people attended funeral services for Molly and Emily at First Baptist Bossier followed by services Katy at Asbury United Methodist Church. Meanwhile, candles, ribbons and balloons created a makeshift memorial outside Airline High School... A place where many students are still overcome with grief. "Anytime you lose a young life it is very difficult. Children become a part of the school family... When there`s a tragic incident like this it affects the entire community,." said Bossier Assistant Superintendent D.C. Machen. Monday morning Airline`s principal held an assembly in honor of the teens. Grief counselors were also brought in to help the student come to terms with their emotions. "We`re going to do our best to let the children know that we`re here to support them and encourage them and to bring back as much normalcy as possible," said Machen. School officials also organized a workshop for parents to teach them how to help their teens deal with the physical and emotional stress associated with grief.
