Concerned Drivers Ask Why

After a fatal pile-up on I-49 through Shreveport earlier this week, questions are being raised about how the Department of Transportation controls road construction. Tuesday afternoon traffic was backed up for miles as police cleared the remnants of a deadly crash. Deputies say a crew was doing striping work on the pavement. The driver of a Toyota Celica, didn`t notice slowing traffic in time and slammed into an suv, which then hit a pickup. She was killed, four others were injured. Drivers KTAL talked to weren`t happy with sitting in backed up traffic for hours. At first they didn`t even realize there was an accident. Transportation officials say the crews striping are following standard procedure. The work trucks with overhead warning arrows are escorted by state police as work moves along the roadway, the way it is done across Louisiana. Work continues on I-49 and officials say striping is also being done on I-20.
