Hurricanes Increase Real Estate Sales in Sabine Parish

Toledo Bend Reservoir property has always been a hot commodity. How could anyone say no to homes that have a gorgeous view? Following hurricanes Katrina and Rita home and property sales have been increasing and Toledo Bend has gotten more popular for those wanting to relocate. "The two hurricanes have, I really hate to say they`ve helped us but they did. People are wanting to get out of that area, where they feel safe," explained Judy Cathey, Toledo Town Realty. More and more home buyers have been coming from South Louisiana to seek shelter in Sabine Parish. Judy Cathey admits her average house listing is around $200,000 but that price tag isn`t keeping people from making the move. "I think if they had had another bad season this year we would`ve seen more of it, but you know those are their homes and most of them want to stay there," said Cathey. Louisiana residents aren`t the only ones trying to escape hurricane season, Florida residents are also starting to call Sabine Parish their home. Cathey says, all the potential home buyers are very knowledgeable and know exactly what they are looking. "I`d say 75% to 80% of customers who walk in through those doors have searched on the internet and know our properties and know the area." Even though no one wants to benefit from the hurricanes, Sabine Parish residents are more than happy to welcome their new neighbors.
