A Cass County man is still behind bars after admitting to authorities he buried his mother`s body in the back yard. The medical examiner has not yet released the autopsy results of 73-year old Carol Alvis. Deputies dug up her body Wednesday. Alvis`s son is being held in the Cass County Detention Center on charges he lied to police about his mother`s death then stole social security money out of her bank account. There is an agency working to prevent incident`s like Alvis` s from happening. Adult Protective Services is available across the nation and is ready to help. The agency depends on neighbors and concerned citizens for information. Many of Carol`s neighbors were given different stories about her welfare. A.P.S. officials say that is a sign something might be wrong. "If you haven`t seen your neighbor in a couple of days, if the mail is stacking up, you haven`t seen them in a week or two you should expect something is going on and check into it and report it," said Gerald Burks. Here`s a number you might want to write down to report abuse of the elderly, 1.800.252.5400. The number can be used across the nation.
