Charges were dismissed against former Miller County Deputy Deandre Brown for lack of a speedy trial.  In Arkansas criminal defendants must be tried within one year.  Prosecutor Tommy Potter says Brown used his knowledge as a cop to work the system.

Potter says Brown, a member of the Arkansas National Guard, would schedule training around the same time his court case would be scheduled.  As a result his case would have to be continued.  Potter says Brown even told the court he was leaving for Iraq, yet never did.

Potter's alleged victim, Emyli Bryant, says she is "very let down" about news of the dismissal.  Bryant says she was also upset to learn Brown was a law enforcement officer at the time this incident allegedly happened.

Potter says state law prevents charges in this case from being re-filed.  Brown did not answer calls from KTAL for comment.
