Working For a Cure

By: Kimberly Williams
Updated: July 28, 2007
Meet 12-year-old B.J. Sparks.. He was 3 and a half when he was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy... "Sometimes its kinda hard... like to get around and stuff," said Sparks."Sometimes it kinda makes you upset. But that doesnt stop me. I still do what I can." And B.J.s proven he can do a lot. For the past 6 years hes been raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association through various types of fundraisers. "Firefighter banquets, and lockups for MDA and all kinds of good things like that." And fundraisers like the one held Saturday afternoon outside Bass Pro Shops at the Louisiana Boardwalk. While B.J. says living with Muscular Dystrophy isnt always easy...Its helping work toward a cure that keeps him motivated to make a difference. "I am very dedicated to this work," said B.J., "I will never give up until theyre all cured... I wont give up...even after mines cured."
