Sheriffs Deputies Use Bait Car To Trap Suspected Burglary Ring

For months, Grand Cane has been targeted by thieves. DeSoto Parish Sheriffs Deputies and residents suspected a group of local men were the culprits. Thanks to their bait truck, detectives finally had the proof they needed. "This was kind of a last ditch effort to make an arrest and it actually worked out perfectly," Detective Adam Ewing with the DeSoto Parish Sheriffs Office said. Beau Hardy, Gary Johnson and Kenneth Williams of Grand Cane are behind bars facing charges of aggravated vehicular burglary. But, detectives suspect their crimes went far beyond that. They are suspected of breaking into cars and attempting to get into businesses, stealing guns and money. However, without any witnesses, the sheriffs office hit a dead end. Thats when detectives decided to make the suspects come to them. "We took a vehicle and placed items in it that would be irresistible to a thief," Ewing said. Detectives parked the vehicle in downtown Grand Cane near the suspects previous targets. On the second night of the sting, the suspects took the bait. "We basically just surrounded them, a foot chase ensued, one suspect was captured and another suspect was captured a block from the scene," Ewing said. After the arrests, detectives say one of the suspects confessed to another burglary. Though the investigation is not over, Ewing is confident this recent string of burglaries in Grand Cane is over.
