Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen says the body of a man found in a Bossier Parish oil field has been identified. Donald Royce Matthews, 71, of the 2000 block of Texas Street in Shreveport, was discovered by oil field workers who called the Bossier Sheriff`s Office at about 7:00 Wednesday morning. His body, which appeared to have been dumped, was near a gravel road 3 miles east of Rocky Mount on Highway 160, between Benton and Plain Dealing,in an area called the Ivan Flats. Bossier Sheriff`s Investigators say they believe foul play was involved in the death of Matthews, whose body was sent to Little Rock where an autopsy was performed. Late Thursday, KTAL received word that the Bossier Sheriff`s Office now says the murder happened in Caddo Parish and that Shreveport Police and the Caddo Sheriff`s Office must now decide who has jurisdiction. Until jurisdiction is decided, the suspect, 29-year-old Patrick Ryan Butler of Bossier City, will be held in the Bossier Maximum Security Facility on $250,000 bond. Butler was arrested around 3:00 Thursday morning when he was spotted driving the victim`s car. He currently faces a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
