Fight To Save The People's Clinic Has Begun

By: Shelli Briery
Updated: July 12, 2007
Officials and employees arent giving up hope that the Greater Texarkana Peoples Clinic can keep its doors open. The clinic is no longer seeing patients. Now officials are trying to figure out how to come up with the $50,000 it takes to operate each month. Community support has generated some funds and board members are trying to figure out ways to cut costs. Supporters say if the clinic is closed the community will be greatly affected. "3,000 people are going to be without any kind of help. Now they are going to the private sector, federal funded programs , so now the entire load is going to be on the community," says Pat Prather. Prather is not only the woman responsible for the pledge drive, but a patient at the clinic. The peoples clinic has nearly 5,000 patients on record. 500 patients walk through the clinic doors each month. For more information on how you can help keep the clinic open call 903-223-5375.
