Orlando, Florida is one of the most popular family vacation destinations in the world. Soon Ark-La-Tex travelers will be able to fly there for as low as 79-dollars each way.Tuesday morning Allegiant Air announced plans to offer non-stop service from Shreveport Regional Airport.
"The Ark-La-Tex community has been so supportive of us. We are excited to bring Orlando Service," Tyri Squires, of Allegiant Air.
Allegiant is the newest addition to Shreveport Regional. It`s been offering non-stop service to Las Vegas since January. Local travel experts say the discount carrier is providing a boost for local tourism.
"Not only have we had people going from Shreveport to Las Vegas. But we`ve also had people coming from Vegas to Shreveport-Bossier. So it`s been a win-win situation," Stacy Brown, President of the Shreveport-Bossier Bureau of Convention and Tourism.
The Shreveport Airport Authority is constantly trying to recruit new discount carriers. They`re hoping Allegaint`s success will entice other airlines to follow suit.
"Anybody that wants to serve our market is a plus for us. We continue to talk to other carriers to look at other markets than just these," said Director of Airports Roy Miller.
Allegiant Air plans to offer Orlando service twice a week. Flights will depart on Wednesdays and Saturdays, beginning November 15th. The discount carrier plans to offer introductory rates as slow as 59-dollars one way. But you`ll have to make reservations before September 30th.
