Category 5 Hurricane Winds and the Arklatex

The maps on this page will display examples of the Maximum
Envelope Of Winds (MEOW). Each map displays the maximum sustained wind for a category 5 hurricane (as measured by the
Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale) and
forward motion of a typical hurricane.
This map shows that a category 5 hurricane moving at 8 kts into the Arklatex will produce tropical storm force winds up to the AR-LA border with 58mph winds as far north as Logansport.
This map shows that a category 5 hurricane moving at 12 kts into the Arklatex will produce 58 mph winds as far north as Jefferson, Benton and Homer. Hurricane force winds will be possible as far north as Many and Natchitoches.
This map shows that a category 5 hurricane moving at 16 kts into the Arklatex will produce 58 mph winds as far north as Texarkana with hurricane force winds as far north as I-20.
This map shows that a category 5 hurricane moving at 20 kts into the Arklatex will produce 58 mph winds areawide with hurricane force winds as far north as the AR-LA border.
This map shows that a category 5 hurricane moving at 24 kts into the Arklatex will produce hurricane force winds of 74 mph as far north as Texarkana and 90 to 95 mph winds as far north as Carthage, Mansfield and Coushatta.
