Local College President Announces Retirement

By: Shelli Briery
Updated: June 27, 2007
A university president is calling it quits, ending a career in education that spans over 40 years. "it is full retirement. My wife and I plan to move to San Antonio near our youngest grandchildren. We are going to spoil them. We missed out on that. We have three sets of grandchildren -- the others are old enough that Grandma and Grandpa is not that big a deal." Dr. Stephen Hensley has announced his retirement as Texas A&M University-Texarkana president after 14 years. Hensley has been credited with the smooth transition from East Texas State University to Texas A&M University-Texarkana. He has also been instrumental in the construction of a new campus on Bringle Lake. Hensleys last day will be August of next year, which, he says, gives the university time to search for his replacement.
