A city without a police force. It seems with every new day in Stamps, Arkansas there is a new twist to the drama in their police department. The sole officer in Stamps, Arkansas turns in his badge. Now the question remains -- who's responsible for keeping this Arkansas community safe? Stamps Mayor Ian Ouei says the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office will have more responsibilities in the city. Police sergeant Chuck Caya resigned from his position last week. The mayor told KTAL Caya's reason for leaving was poor communication between his office and the police department. Last month former police chief Robert Drake was fired, leaving the police force with only Caya. Lafayette County Sheriff Victor Rose says there will be authorities present in the city on a daily basis. "We are not looking for it to be long term, just short term to help out with whatever is needed to make things happen." The sheriff said the fix is only temporary. If long-term policing is needed, officials will have to meet to decided what is next for the department. The mayor says he already has four resumes of people interested in the police force but he isn't rushing into making a decision. KTAL tried to contact Sergeant Caya, but he didn't return our phone call
