The construction site along Shreveport's Youree Drive turned dangerous around 4:00 Friday evening. Emergency crews had to dig two workers out after circumstances such as vibrations caused by passing cars made the hole they were laying pipe in fall. Both workers were trapped temporarily. One had to be sent to the hospital with a possible leg fracture. The other victim suffered minor injuries. Authorities on the scene said the construction workers were not using a piece of safety equipment called a cage, and that it would have helped ease the danger. A cage braces the walls of holes that crews have to work in, but it is not a requirement.
