cInfants in need of medical attention have a better chance at survival in the Ark-La-Tex. As of Sunday, Willis Knighton South has a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The 42 bed facility even features private rooms for families with multiple births. "We have three rooms specifically designed for twins. Each baby will have it's own individual room, which allows parent bonding, more privacy and more developmental care for the baby," said Dr. G. Brent Whitton. Once an infant is admitted, parents will be allowed to visit often with just a few minor restrictions. The new facility will also allow ambulance and helicopter transfers 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. The new NICU has been in the works for about two years and cost about $8.5 million.
