One step forward...three steps back . After Texarkana, Texas City Council meeting, the city is back to square one as Captian Joe Buntings appointment as police chief was denied. As city leaders and members of the community spoke in favor of Bunting, urging council members to appoint him chief, all but one voted in favor. Those in attendance at tonights meeting, including police officers from both sides of Texarkana were shocked at the councils decision. "I am thouroughly baffled with the process, " said Texarkana, Texas Police Officer Ed Emilia. "We have been going nine months. You get down to the City Manager appointing a chief and you get into this debate that should have been settled before hand." Texarkana, Arkansas Police Chief Bob Harrison was also in attendance at the meeting. "I came here tonight to support of Joe Bunting. I have worked with him through the years, worked very closely with him as he has been the interim chief. The former administration almost put a fence up between agencies and Joe has done alot to restore that closeness." Council members all expressed concern regarding the future of the department, citing they felt Bunting wasnt the man to take them forward. No word yet on when the new search would begin, or how the city plans to proceed.
