Baby Chimp Is Main Attraction

Updated: March 10, 2007
"My kids have been obsessed with Tracy and Teresa. So we wanted to come out and see them today," said Amy Burford. The Burfords are just one of dozens of families who got up close and personal with Chimp Havens newest addition... Baby Tracy. She, along with her mother Teresa, were the main attraction Saturday at Chimp Havens first Chimpanzee Discovery Day of the year. "Its beyond my expectations. I didnt really know we were going to get that close," said Burford. In January, middle-aged Teresa gave birth to Tracy, taking everyone who heard about it by surprise. N-B-Cs Today Show even sent a crew down to interview Teresas handlers. And even they say they were even stumped. "Even though it wasnt planned. All the males have had vasectomies. But were excited to have her here. Its a lot of fun. And I think the public will learn a lot seeing her develop over the years," said Primatologist Linda Brent. But one question still remains... Who is Baby Tracys father? "We dont know who the daddy is yet. But word is from the lab thats doing the DNA testing we should know in about a week," said Brent. Regardless of who the father is, One thing is for sure... Baby Tracy has one big family at Chimp Haven. The Sanctuary plans to host Chimpanzee Discovery Days on the second Saturday of every month from now through November. The next chance to sneak a peek at Baby Tracy will be April 14th.
