AUSTIN, TX - The highest scoring offense in the nation was silenced by one of the NCAA's top defensive units.

Florida held Northwestern State to 36 percent shooting in a 79-47 rout.

NSU guard and Bossier, LA native Jalen West nailed a jumper at the 13:15 mark of the first quarter to tie the game at 15-a-piece, but that was the last gasp of air the Demons would breathe.

Florida's defense spearheaded a second half defensive assault. The Gators smothered the Demon's high-octane offense, allowing 15 points the entire second frame.

Northwestern State forward DeQuan Hicks led the Demons with 12 points, 8 rebounds in his third game back from a right foot injury.

Erik Murphy fueled the Gators with 18 points on 8-11 shooting.

Florida advances to the round of 32.
