Hundreds traveled to Shreveport Saturday for free dental care. Some stayed in their cars overnight just to make sure they were seen.

Shreveport-Bossier Family Dental Care was able to offer more than $65,000 worth of free care to patients.

Fillings, extractions, and cleanings were all part of the free services. Many of the patients said they've put off getting work done on their teeth because they couldn't afford it.

Patients said they're grateful the dentists are helping those in need locally, instead of heading overseas.

"It's just kind of sad that we work and still are not able to provide insurance for ourselves or our family members," said Shelli Mason, of Texarkana, Arkansas.

"There's people outside right now that are hurting. They've been hurting for awhile and if we can alleviate the pain and help somebody, that's our goal," said Dr. Ross Dies, one of the six dentists working at the dental office.

"To be honest with you I can't believe they're actually doing one around here instead of sending off to all these other places," said Cody Killian, of Shongaloo, Louisiana. "There's a lot more people here that need help also instead of anywhere else."

The dentists were able to exceed their goal of serving 150 people. They hope to offer free dental care in 2014, and have even heard from other dentists around the city who want to get involved.
