A 14-year-old male student has been arrested for the rape of a 15-year-old female student. Caddo Parish investigators have collected evidence and believe the rape happened on Mar. 13 around 9 a.m. The male is being charged with forcible rape. Caddo Parish Schools spokesman Victor Mainiero said district officials are looking at how they can improve procedures so that students are kept safe while attending school.
"There's a variety of things that schools are making sure students feel comfortable about coming to talk to administrators, that students are in class from bell to bell, that security is following their routines and protocols on how they monitor campus," said Mainiero. "All of these things come into play."
The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office said this is an isolated incident and there have not been any more related arrests. According to Mainiero, if convicted, the 14 year old suspect could face suspension and then possible expulsion from school.
Woodlawn Leadership Academy, where Woodlawn High School is housed, has two school resource officers and three security coordinators, as well as a security camera system.
