But Marcus Patillo expects the matter to be discussed within the next week. On Friday Police Chief Russell Mills filed a suit wanting the courts to void the town council's vote to eliminate term limits for the mayor and council. That vote took place on February 11th, during the same special meeting the council voted to disband the police department. According to Mills' lawsuit, the vote violated the open meetings and state law.
"We will deal with this matter. I thought this was worked out before. We'll take care of it. We just want to make sure the city is moving in the right direction and everybody's working together," says Marcus Patillo, Homer Town Attorney.
The mayor and city council are elected to serve four year terms. Patillo is not sure what those term limits are right now.
