Residents
in Shreveport's Lakeside community say a park is the key to revitalizing the
neighborhood.
Nearly 100 residents signed a petition in 2012, asking for a park
to be built at the corner of Murphy St. and Alabama Ave, where currently
several vacant lots are located.
According to Councilman Sam Jenkins, the Murphy Street Park Project has already been approved by the Shreveport City Council. The $220,000 project is being funded by unused funds from 2001 General Obligation Bonds. The holdup is acquiring the land,
Jenkins said the city needs to buy six lots from four owners in order for construction to begin.
