Gumbo Gladiators

By: Jade Cunningham
Updated: March 9, 2013
If you like Gumbo, then Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport was the place to be Saturday.

The Youth Justice Program's Gumbo Cookoff kicked off with big success.

25 teams, from coast to coast, came to show off their style of the southern dish.

Duck, alligator, you name it and it was served for all to enjoy.

But one competitor says everyone was there to help support a great cause.

"I full heartedly know where the money is going for the girls and the guys. It'll help give them a better chance and do things and doing stuff like this, this is a great cause."

The winning team was awarded $400 and the title of Ultimate Gumbo Champion.

All proceeds with to the Youth Justice Program.
