Pelican's final flight

PELICAN, LA - In 27 seasons, Pelican basketball coach Richard Simmons has won five state championships.

On Friday, March 8th, his Jaguar program will have a chance to win back-to-back championships en rout to their six state title in school history .

A state championship in 2013 would be the most sentinmental. The school is facing a $12 million dollar budget crucnch and consolidation with nearby Mansfield appears to be inevitable.

If the school closes, it will be the final game in Simmons' coaching career and the final time a Pelican basketball team takes the floor.
