Some local youth came together to bring the Pierre Bossier Mall alive with storytelling.

Saturday afternoon, the annual Read Across America was held in front of Dillars.

Kids and their parents came to hear different stories, meet the Cat in the Hat, and get a free book!

Event Organizer, Courtney Feliciano, hopes Saturday's event will teach adults the importance of reading to their children.

"Of course it helps you do better in school and in life, but just plain and simple reading is fun. It can take you to another world, another place, it's just enjoyable."

In all, more than 150 books were given away during the event.

It's going on now for more than 10 years and is put on by the Bossier Association of Education.
