Faithful attend Ash Wednesday Services

Catholics, Anglicans, and Orthodox Christians observed Ash Wednesday today, February 21st. Besides Christmas and Easter, this is the time of year which sees the largest increase in church attendance. Ash Wednesday ushers in the holy period of Lent, which is a 40 day period leading up to Easter. It is not a holy obligation of Catholics, but a time of sacrifice, giving to the poor, and contemplation.
