Autopsy results show Brandon Goyne died of a heart condition.
The results that were released Thursday reveal that Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia/Cardiomyopathy or ARVD/C caused Brandon's death.
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, ARVD/C is a leading cause of sudden death among young athletes and may be attributed 30-50% of the time to a genetic, progressive heart condition.
Scott Goyne, Brandon's father said, "We hope that by sharing what happened in Brandon's situation, we can help prevent another family from going through this."
Although Brandon had two physical examinations in the six months prior to his death, his parents said the condition would not typically be detected during those routine tests.
Brandon, who was an outfielder for the Generals', collapsed during practice on Jan. 18.
Brandon, a native of Elysian Fields was a junior majoring in General Studies/Kinesiology. He was 20 years old.
