As dusk sets in over the city of Homer, citizens come together looking for answers.
They want to know why their council voted to disband the local police department earlier this month, and why six officers, the chief, and a secretary would have to lose their jobs.

The plan is to have the Claiborne Sheriff's Office take over.

"This is home to some of us. We need to do better and we need to have our town protected," Marie Cooper Johnson said.

Along with safety concerns, many people are finally glad they get a chance to voice opinions.

The police chief says council never asked for public comment or even told him, just voted to disband.

Homer's mayor has said in past interview that disbanding the department would save roughly $350,000. She says in 2012 the department's overtime expenditures tallied up to more than six times the department's budget.
