NATCHITOCHES - Three Lady Demons in double-figures led the Northwestern State women's basketball team past New Orleans 63-50 Saturday afternoon in a one-game break from Southland Conference action.

Keisha Lee and Janelle Perez each scored 14 and Jasmine Upchurch added to 12 points to push the NSU's overall record to 11-15 on the season.

"We felt like we like we got some really good looks at the basket. I felt like we missed a number of easy shots, so our numbers could've been better," said co-head coach Brooke Stoehr. "But that the way it goes sometimes"

Keri Thomas scored 26 points and Mirjam Sipos added 16 in the Lady Privateers' (3-21) effort.

Jasmine Bradley came up big for Northwestern State grabbing eight offensive boards which helped lead to 15 second-chance points for NSU. She finished the game with 12 boards.

"We talk about controlling what you can control, and that's energy, effort, and intensity. I thought her (Bradley) energy level was great," said Stoehr. "She didn't have a great shooting day today, but she had 12 boards and eight on the offensive end. That just tells me that she was into the game and wanted her team to be successful."

NSU jumped out to a 5-0 lead within the first two minutes, but UNO worked back and took their largest lead of the game (3) at the 12:17 mark in the first half. NSU grabbed the lead for the rest of the game when Perez hit a jumper to make the score 17-15 at 10:33.

Markeshia Johnson came off the bench and added eight points. Arianne Ausmer contributed 10 boards including four offensive rebounds.

The Lady Demons as a team shot 40 percent from the field and had 37 total rebounds, 17 assists, and seven steals.

UNO had 28 team rebounds with nine assists and 18 turnovers.

NSU will return to the court Saturday when they play Stephen F. Austin at 4 o'clock in Nacogdoches. The Lady Demons need one conference win to claim a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament.
