fireman bigA Sunday fire completely destroyed the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club. The shreveport facility was a place many children went to for after school activities. Tyree Stevenson, a club member says, "It's real sad because that was the only place to go to and now we don't have anywhere to go." To these kids, the boys and girls club was a place where they would come to laugh and play. Today they come with heavy hearts and memories of what things used to be like. The after school club was like a second home to all of the 900 members. For most of the kids, this was their first time to ever see devastation and deal with such a big loss. Salvation Army officer, Major Cherry Craddock says, "Several of the kids have been here and they're in shock because they lost something that was important to them." Children with working parents and single moms and dads came here and stayed off the streets, out of trouble. The organization is hoping to find a temporary facility for the children but no plans have been made yet. The Salvation Army welcomes any donations, they are in need of school supplies such as books, paper, and games. You can contact the Salvation Army at (318) 424-3200. You can make a donation online or by mail: 200 E. Stoner P.O. Box 1158 Shreveport, LA 71163
