Emancipation Proclamation 150th anniversary focus of weekend program

One of the focuses of this year's Black History Month is the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation.
On Saturday, a program at the Bossier Parish Library History Center will take a look at how the document impacted America. Doctor William D. Pederson, a top professor from LSU-S will lead the discussion beginning at 2 P.M.
Local actor, Thelma Harrison, will give her portrayal of Harriet Tubman who's considered the "conductor" of the Underground Railroad.
"It's to show strength that people had even back that fat and especially for African American people, to show what she did to make a contribution to our country's history," said Harrison.
The Emancipation Proclamation attempted to free slaves in the north and the south, but was unsuccessful for months. However, the program will show how it began the process of ending slavery in the U.S.
