Centenary College of Louisiana's Node Living-Learning Community is backing the issue. They hope to change the labeling of more than two dozen single stalled bathrooms on campus.
"Bathrooms are a very vulnerable place. If one does not appear a certain way, or act a certain way, you get yelled at in one bathroom and beat up in the other," said Sara Whittington, a sociology major who is leading the project. "It's more of creating an inclusive environment for everyone and a more diverse campus. "
The group hopes to finish the project in two months.
The non-profit "A Better Shreveport" is also hoping the project will expand across the city. Its members are asking businesses and residents to help identify single stall bathrooms where the sign on the door could be changed from male/female to gender-neutral.
If you know of any gender-neutral bathrooms, you're asked to add them to the database on this website.
