Sci-Port hosts an asteroid watch party

It's too small to see with the naked eye, but scientists say this 150-foot asteroid is the closest to fly-by Earth.  Asteroid 2012 DA-14 was within 17-thousand miles of our planet.  It looked like a streak of light flying through the night sky at more than 17-thousand miles per hour.  NASA is tracking the asteroid, which they say is unrelated to the meteor that hit Russia.

Here in Shreveport, Sci-Port held a watch party this afternoon followed by asteroid related activities.  Anyone who came out had a chance to get up close and personal with Sci-Port's meteorite collection.  There were also presentations explaining the history of asteroids.
