Caddo judge race a lock - two slide onto benches unopposed

Two Shreveport women will slide into
seats on state court judicial benches after no one qualified to oppose them in
the April 6 election at the close of qualifying today.
First Judicial District Judge Janette
Garret will fill the Second Circuit Court of Appeals seat vacated by the
retired Gay Gaskins, and attorney Katherine Dorroh will fill the unexpired
District Court seat vacated by Frances Pitman, who was elected to a Second
Circuit Court of Appeals in November.
In Bossier, Mayor Lorenz Walker was
unopposed in his bid for a third term, as were Councilmen at Large Tim Larken
and David Montgomery. Also unopposed
were incumbents Jeff Darby (District 2) and Don "Bubba" Williams (District 3)
and Jeff Free, who filed for the District 4 seat being vacated by the retiring
David Jones.
Only Scott Irwin (District 1) and Larry
Hanisee (District 5) drew opponents for the April 6 election. Running against Irwin will be Mike Beam, a
local businessman. n
Hanisee, was elected in October 2011 to
fill the unexpired term of the late Charles "Chubby" Knight, who resigned in
March 2011, drew two opponents -
Tommy Harvey, who lost by only two votes
to Hanisee in that 2011 election and political newcomer Mischa Angel, a local
realtor and the only woman running for a council seat this year.
Other Bossier Parish races with opposition
are as follows: Alderman District 3 Town of Benton: Ronald "Ronnie" Jones is
running against Kenneth "Ken" Shiflett, who came in second behind Benton Mayor
Wayne Cathcart in the November 2012 mayoral election. In Benton's District 4 Alderman's race, James Friday will oppose Donna Moor
Wyatt. The District 5 Race will be
between Richard D. Bushnell II and Thomas "Tommy" Hill Sr. Richard Jackson was unopposed in the District
1 race, and Linda Ann Gates was unopposed in District 2.
Robert Hamiter was unopposed in Plain
Dealing's Justice of the Peace District 3 race.
In
Haughton's Adlerman race, only one will be elected from three candidates - Doug
Adams, Melba Baker and Monica Smith Wells.
In DeSoto Parish, three will vie for the
District E Alderman seat: Kervin Campbell, Cynthia Cruse and Perry Miles.
In Bienville Parish, three people
are running for Police Chief - Roosevelt
Kinsey III, Antwoin Moore and Rickey Pearce.
