Caddo board puts selection of firm to search for new leader on fast-track

The Caddo Parish School Board today voted to step up the search process for a new superintendent of schools, by running advertisements for proposals from professional head hunters beginning Feb. 22.In order to do that, the board must vote to put out requests for proposals (RFP) at its Feb. 19 meeting.

Last month the board voted to not renew the contract of current superintendent Dr. Gerald Dawkins, whose current contract runs out in August.

The board hopes to give as much time as possible to the firm they retain to conduct the search, which is why they decided to fast-track the selection process of a professional hiring agency.

The advertisements for RFPs, which are placed in professional education publications, must be run for three consecutive weeks. In addition to the Feb. 22 advertisements, they will be run on March 1 and March 8, with a submission deadline of March 15.

The board will then evaluate the proposals. Though board members may request presentations from firms submitting RFPs prior to the March 28 deadline, it is not required.

A recommendation for firm selected will be made at the board's April 2 executive meeting,  and a special meeting of the regular school board will be called to finalize the selection.
