The Shreveport Fire Department has pulled out of the search for someone that may have fallen from the downtown Shreveport railroad crossing bridge into the Red River. Witnesses and a KCS train operator reported the possibly that someone may have been struck by the train while crossing the bridge at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night. The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol is treating the incident as a drowning and is continuing recovery efforts.
The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office has reviewed video from the train and concluded that someone was at the midpoint of the bridge and attempting to get out of the way of the approaching train. The video did not show if the person was struck or may have fallen or jumped into the river.
The coordinated search resumed at 8 a.m. Thursday with several law enforcement departments from Shreveport, Bossier City, Bossier and Caddo parishes taking part. The CPSO Marine Patrol combed the rivers surface and banks with the help of K9 search and rescue units during the morning and will continue the search with underwater sonar during the afternoon. Thursday's search area started at the downtown railroad bridge and will continue south to the Jimmie Davis Highway.
CPSO has not received any new missing person reports to aid in the recovery. The water depth in the search area can range from 20 to 60 feet.
