After an early morning ground breaking, Caddo Parish parents crowded an informational meeting about the start-up for the Magnolia Charter School of Excellence.

"I'm looking for a more hands program for my daugher and to be more involved with the school," parent Donna Woods said.

The school is taking open enrollment, meaning no requirements in terms of testing and funded by the state it's 100% tuition free.

600 children in grades K-6 will have the chance to be accepted the first year, eventually extending to 8th grade and expanding to 800 students.

The school is expected to be ready for the start of the upcoming school year.
