Some students in Bossier City take time to celebrate culture today.

With dances and poems, students at Central Park Elementary School put on the school's first African-American Cultural Festival.

The students rehearsed for six weeks to put on the program.

This is the first year of the festival, and the organizer hopes to make it annual.

"This is black history month, and I feel that having the children celebrate their heritage is just one step of bringing not only unity, but just motivational tool to just help them achieve higher for their dreams," says Maggie Peairs, the arts, drama and dance teacher.

Now the students will start working and rehearsing for their Hispanic Cultural Festival.
