February is Black History Month and The Shreve Memorial Library is honoring a local African American woman for her service to our community.

Yesterday, the library's Board of Control named the meeting room of the library's Wallette Branch after Mrs. Otis Whiten Emanuel.

Mrs. Emanuel was the first African American librarian for the Shreve Memorial Library.

Mrs. Emanuel worked at the Lakeside Branch during the 1950's and is also the mother of Caddo District Judges Leon and Ramona Emanuel.
