In Shreveport, people aren't the only ones celebrating Mardi Gras. The Krewe of Barkus and Meoux makes sure animals get to join in on the fun too.

The krewe held its 15 annual pet parade Sunday. More than a thousand people came out. Organizers said that's the largest crowd they've ever seen.

The parade was held in Riverview Park. The theme was "Stars, Guitars, and Animals from Mars." There were dogs, cats, goats and even a miniature horse parading around the park in their Sunday best.

There were contests for the best-dressed, best float, and pet-owner look alike.

This year's animal royalty included King Taco, (Owner : Kristie Weeks), and Queen Grace Ann (Owner: Heather Glover.) The proceeds of the parade benefit abused, neglected, and homeless animals.
