Bossier City is a safer place to live thanks to the Bossier City Police Department.

According to statistics released Wednesday the total number of crimes decreased 4% in Bossier City in 2012 compared to 2011.

This marks the sixth consecutive year that the total number of reported crimes dropped in the city.

In 2012 there were a total of 10,098 crimes reported to the Bossier City Police Department. That figure is lower than the 10,534 crimes reported in 2011.

Chief Shane McWilliams says Bossier City also experienced a decrease in the number of violent crimes including murder, rape, armed robbery and aggravated assault in 2012 compared to the previous year.

One additional burglary was reported in 2012 compared to 2011, while theft increased by about 8% in 2012.
