Every year millions of Americans go without the medicines they so desperately need, simply because they either dont have insurance, are underinsured or dont have the money they need to pay for their medicine. But help is on the way thanks to the partnership for prescription assistance. So far the PPA has helped more than 3 million Americans get their prescription medication at either a free or reduced price. They are using a tour bus to spread their message across the nation. Wednesday the "Help Is Here Express" bus made a stop in Shreveport. The bus is staffed with trained specialists who help lower income, uninsured or underinsured people get access to more than 450 patient assistance programs. The process is a simple one. "We ask them about 10 very simple questions like what are the medications that youre on. What is your monthly income... and keep in mind that these answers are kept completely conifidential...Because we want to know if these folks pre-qualify or not," said PPA Spokesman Jeff Gilbert. Last year the partnership for prescription assistance helped more than 103,000 people in Louisiana afford their medications, of them more than 4,000 lived in the Shreveport area.
