College students volunteered their time at Centerpoint Community Services Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.
Centerpoint runs 2-1-1 connections which puts people in need in touch with the organizations who can help them. LSU-S students and other volunteers prepped and painted the front and back of the facility. They also did a little weeding and landscaping to the back area of the building.
One l-s-u-s graduate student, Lakenya Deberry, explains that giving back can be a good time.
"I have always participated in MLK Day of Service. it helps me feel like I'm really doing something as opposed to just sitting around maybe eating something," said Deberry.
She adds that helping fellow man is what this day is all about. She hopes more young men and women take a few hours to give back to their communities.
