A homeless shelter for young ladies got a facelift Monday morning thanks to local college students who spent their day-off giving back.

Highland Haven is a place for girls age 16 to 21, who for whatever reason, are not able to live at home with their own families.  In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, some local young women who attend LSU-S dedicated their day off of school to create a homey backyard area for residents.

"I was in a place similar to this at a very young age so it meant a lot to me to be able to come out and help these girls," said Whitney O'Neal, LSU-S student.

Volunteers removed old shrubs, vines, and raked leaved. They created a place for grilling and relaxing in the backyard area for residents.
