First Family prepares for 2nd inauguration

By: Nikki Henderson
Updated: January 21, 2013

Monday morning, the president engaged in a series of traditions leading up to his ceremonial swearing-in on Capitol Hill.

Hours before President Barack Obama would take a public oath of office and deliver his second inaugural address, the president and the first family attended a customary church service at St. John's Episcopal Church.

There, Dr. Luis Leon, the rector of the church, led a series of prayers for the nation, Washington Cardinal Donald Weurl led a Gospel reading and an Alexandria, Va. rabbi offered a final blessing.

The First Family also attended a celebratory coffee with leaders from Congress at the White House.
